A 2012 study conducted by the Greene County Memorial Hospital Foundation revealed a serious need for recreational sports and fitness facilities in Greene County. The Foundation had already contributed nearly $2 million to local health and wellness projects, but was looking for a project that would provide an immediate impact on the community.
The EQT REC Center project began with fundraising, then moved on to design and construction. The $8 million, 60,000-square-foot recreation and fitness center is slated to open in the Fall of 2017. Its purpose is twofold: to positively impact the local economy through job creation and athletic event hosting, and to become a focal point of a healthy community and a source of pride for Greene County for generations to come.
